how a sapphire crystal is made. Crystal: sapphire Sapphire glass in the watch was made in a laboratory by melting aluminium oxide (Al2O3) in the presence of hydrogen and oxygen at 2000 °C. After crystallisation into the corundum 'pear', it's cut and further processed into the desired shape and size. Sapphire glass is the hardest glass used in watches. It would be second behind diamond on the scale of mineral hardness, so it can only scratched by diamond. Its only disadvantage is its fragility. The uncut Sapphire Pear is below (Cost $20.00 approx.). At this price, ALL watches should come with Sapphire Crystals. Attachments:

Interesting! I've actually had good luck with the Seiko Hardlex. I've only scratched two out of all I've owned, and they were minor scratches. But I agree that any watch selling for over $300 should have sapphire.

But I agree that any watch selling for over $300 should have sapphire. And companies like Tactical Frog, Steelidive, and Heimdallr can do it for about $100. |
