Hello gents, I'm zeb's friend he mentioned. I have two kinetics, one newer SKA671 with 5M82, and one SMA073 with 5J22: View Attachmentand I charge them with the mentioned Philips charger: View AttachmentI just press the button once a week or whenever the fancy strikes these days. I determined logically and then confirming with the mentioned sleep function that the 5J22 charges in the "4 down" orientation, which thanks to the crown is also reasonable stable sitting in the charger. I also have the mentioned Swatch Electrons autoquarz: View Attachmentwhich I'll discuss more in the next post since evidently I can't attach moar. Judging by the user name, you must be a Bloom County/ Bill the Cat fan! That is a very cool method to charge the watches. Thanks for sharing

How old is your Autoquartz, John? From what I can find, Swatch says it has a capacitor, but users talk about a dead capacitor/battery. I have emails to you from 2006-7 saying I didn't get the autoquarz yet, and it looks like I got the Body and Soul in 2008. From swatchandbeyond.com/products/swatch-electrons-stb401 it looks like Electrons is a 1998 model, so it's entirely possible it's 22 years old now. I've just spent some time charging it so it's going on regular/single-tick mode. Maybe I'll try to keep it up for a while. By experience I have to charge it every day which is why I suspect the power cell is going. BTW, I forgot to mention that I snagged the Phillips Imageo from Amazon's "open-box" area a couple years ago after they became $100+ on eBay. I paid about $50 I think, and one of the candles doesn't work but I couldn't care less about that! Strangely I can't really find a mention of a Swatch Protons, I could swear there was one. But there are these: Swatch Neutrons: swatchandbeyond.com/products/swatch-neutrons-stb400Swatch Atom: swatchandbeyond.com/products/atom-sts400

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah I was so relieved when I got that charging setup! Didn't have to furiously rotate my kinetics in anymore. Dan has accused me of having reached OWN though, which I guess I kind of have. Doesn't stop me from looking and wanting more watches once in a while though.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the info on this site!!! I am having a few challenges induction charging my two 5D direct drive kinetics.
Firstly, I tried the two versions of the Braun 4728 charges in all different positions and didn't charge. There was no change in amps from idle on my readings either (using an energy meter from Kasa).
Then I read up about the Phillips HX9100 charger and got one of those. I immediately had some success registering from 0 amps in idle to 1.6a when I put the watches in certain positions.
However, with both watches, no matter what positions I've tried (And I've tried many different positions haha), it continues draining to zero on the reading on the face, even though the amp current drawing is ok (goes from 0 amps to 1.4a to 1.65a depending on position).
Interesting thing is, the watch will keep ticking when at 0 on the face reading, so the induction is providing power to something. But at zero reading on the watch, as soon as I take it off the HX9100, it will stop immediately.
I've even tried charging with the crown pulled out to reduce power draw but doesn't work either.
I believe the 5D and 7D (I have one of these too) have the generating coil between 12 and 2 on the dial. There's also two hour, minute, second coils too. Can they be absorbing the induction?
Many thanks in advance, hope to solve this one.

Kinetic collector and engineer (EE) here....I've developed a Kinetic induction charger and characterized 9 of the 10 Kinetic platforms. If any experimenters want help locating the generator coil in your watch I can give info on location relative to center (distance from watch center) and angular location relative to the crown. An example of a 5M4 is attached.

I've got a plethora of Seiko kinetics and am currently using Phillips Sonicare charger I got off of E-Bay to charge my watches. It works, but it's not exactly "elegant". But I am certainly interested in what you have conjured up. cheers, chris
