Circa 1977 A.Schild Brain Matic
Powered by a 28.8 kbph AS 5008 automatic alarm, the alarm mainspring also auto-winds. Bracelet isn't original, it's a Watchadoo. Highly unusual as nearly all of these were made by Fortis. A.Schild began marketing their own watches under their own marque shortly before they went under. The brain matic was one of them. The AS 5008 was one of the few movements that ETA didn't acquire with the acquisition of A.Schild. It's my understanding Maurice Lacroix obtained the rights to it. The AS 5008 has found itself in a number of much newer watches under a number of brands as a result. The case is made of an extremely hard metal, almost as hard as the Rado DiaStar's. It doesn't scuff or scratch, although this one has a few very minor dings around its sharp edges. Great watch with an attractive cushion/turtle like case, John, also interesting to see a movement brand as an actual watch brand, something like Sea Gull. Interesting about the metal, like after it is forced, it was cooled down in cold water... Really a piece to save! Today didn't feel to make an effort to wind a watch... Nice Zodiac, Johan!

Awesome vintage alarm, John! The case does look different than regular stainless steel. Kind of a slight bluish tint. I'm taking a break-o from the Seiko. Going basic black with a (dusty) Trias with Unitas 6497. I consider this a classic poor man's watch. Back when I bought it it was less than $200, for a watch with a Swiss Unitas movement. The bonus is that it has a nice, vintage looking dial and hands. Very nice Trias

That's one sharp looking piece John (no pun intended). I've always liked the Rado line as well. I'm trying to flatten the hump with this guy today... The strap really works well with that on, Russ- great mod!

What a weird name for such a nice watch. The only thing AS I have is the high beat movement in my old Zodiac. Another HOT day. Think I'll go for a drive with the AC and music cracked up. Bob Hope you had a nice, cool drive, Bob. Like I always say, that's one awesome GMT.

Nothing wrong with a nice quartz watch. Sometimes it's nice to just have the time all set to go.

Great movement and cool brand, John! G-Shock for gardening this morning- at least 16 cups of rhubarb! The bidynator powered(first successful bi-directional wind) LaSalle later in honour of my father in law who passed away yesterday. It was his watch- he gave it to me a few years back. Sorry for your loss, Marcel. That's a beautiful watch to remember him by. It's very cool that you have a Bidynator movement in your collection! Do you know what caliber it is? Is someone going to make rhubarb pie? Here's some weird music about rhubarb.

Not absolutely sure on the movement- might have a photo somewhere. 28 cups of rhubarb... I see jam and a crumble on the horizon

I'll keep working in a different watch between wearing the new one. West End Silk Road toninght.

Very nice, John! I dug deep into the boxes and somehow came up with this Sturmanski from the old PMWF days. I really should wear it more often, but I hate the non-quickset date. Of all the non-quickset movements out there, the cal 3133 is easily the quickest to set. You only need to roll the time back to 10:30 before rolling foward to midnight. It's literally half the work as a Vostok.
