The old city hall building has finally been renovated to finish the buildings being restored downtown following the gas main explosion in 2018. The lots on the other side of the intersection are still empty. No solid word on when/if something new is built on those. But this city hall building has never looked like this in my lifetime. It always was kind of run-down and dingy. I guess there had been a fire several decades ago and the full bell tower was lost and the windows had to go. It was never city hall in my lifetime either, always a shared multi-business setup with apartments upstairs. In 2006 during a walk I did take a couple of photos of it then. Then 2018, this is what the neighborhood looked like following the gas main blast and fire that burned overnight. I never got a good angle of the building from the fence-line I took these photos this afternoon.

When bad things happen, we mourn and pick up the pieces and rebuild. Humans can be pretty awesome. It looks really nice! I hope something is built in the lot.
