Also, I like the fact that it’s been “Willardized”.

The symmetrical 6309 shaped case makes it look closer (but not identical) to a 6105-8000, the "Captain Willard" 8110 predecessor. 6105-8000 Photo from Fratello

So used to the 8110 look... With so many variations and mods on the Seiko watches, the very thing that makes them fun, makes them confusing. Thank you for pointing that out, John.

A coin edge bezel would be the bee's knees for that mod!

A coin edge bezel would be the bee's knees for that mod! Ah, but it has the pleasing bezel edge we spoke of before... the original coin edge would look cool, but I do like the 7040 version.

So used to the 8110 look... With so many variations and mods on the Seiko watches, the very thing that makes them fun, makes them confusing. Thank you for pointing that out, John. The 6105-8000 (and 8009 North American market) was only out for two years from 1968 to 1970. It was preceded by the 62MAS-010 and followed by the famous 8110 in 1970 (and North American market 8119). Its production continued to 1978. At the same time, the 6105 movement inside was incremented with a revision from the 6105A to the 6105B, which included adding hacking. As a result, there are many, many more 8110 than there are 8000, with some rarities as the 8000 spanned the required change from water"proof" to water"resistant" - a marking found on the back and the dial. The rarest 8000 are the "proof-proof" with "waterproof" on an original back and dial. Very few were made as Seiko built out their remaining stocks of "proof" that got mixed in with the new backs and dials marked "resistant". Didn't matter which were used on their production line; there was no effort to distinguish between the two. The 6105-8110 was followed by the 6306 and 6309 in 1976 with two years of production overlap.
