Looks like a nice and relaxing visit, Johan. I've no doubt it was well deserved for both of you. That carbonara looks yummy It was one of the best Italian restaurants I ever ate! The taste was so refined, you wouldn't believe it of such a simple diner next to the main road in a small town!! Casa della Mama! (Vaals) check Trip Advisor and see what people say!

Delicious food, beautiful scenery, and great architecture. Looks like it was a great little getaway. I love the way you're looking at that beer in this picture.

I was really thirsty and Gulpener is a local beer from the brewery (I once visited) in Gulpen a tiny town in the province of Limburg but they brew excellent beers. Heineken has the name, but the smaller breweries have the taste! (and less/no preservatives). Dutch beer in green bottles for export, usually also have way more of the "keep good junk" in it... The bottles for local use, are brown glass.

The sign with the word "Nederland" (The Netherlands) was taken a few steps from the border....in Germany. So the road just differs a bit, still one sees tiny differences between the 2 countries how things are set up, different road signs, road surface, sidewalks. I guess it must be a strange concept being able to just walk over a border without any official around and do it 5 times a minute if you like. It is not a state line, no...two different countries! Close to our hotel there is a just invisible border between Nederland and Belgium and (sorry Belgian brothers) it right away looks better kept up. There is no sign, you're entering Nederland, but road and houses are quite suddenly in better shape and the cars have our yellow number plates of course...
