When I get a creative project in my mind, I sometimes obsess over it until I finally put it together. This is one of those. I'm about half-done and had to pause the build to buy a propane torch and some wood finish. My 120W solder gun was not powerful enough to melt solder on the brass bars. When done this will all be 1 thing. If it works as I envision, then I will build another and give 1 each to my sisters. This is something that others have built but I think I have a more unique design I'm working on. What is it?

I can see why you guess scale but no. Buckminster Fuller sometimes gets the credit for this sort of project but really it was a student of his who brought the idea to Bucky.

A geodesic light tent? But why two? Arches to support a wire framework. A rigid airship!

A geodesic light tent? But why two? Arches to support a wire framework. A rigid airship! Rigid airship sounds fun! But sorry no to all. I have to solder reinforcements on the brass wires. And some of this is not presented right side up. But both pieces will be joined as 1 object that is not separatible. The wire in the packages yet are key to the finished item.

Some kind of Tensegrity table?

Some kind of Tensegrity table? We have a winner! A plant stand in reality. The arches will be looped through each other and they are not fixed in the holes of the boards at all. Compressive tension will hold it all together. But it's way too flimsy now until I work on the reinforcement spars of the brass arches. I had no torch to solder or do brazing with.
Edit: Here is a photo of somebody else's project. Very similar to what I am doing. I'm going for something a bit more structurally rigid, I hope.

Cool! I'm familiar with the concept, but didn't know what it was called. Antigravity! That one doesn't look very strong with the string. Wire makes more sense.

It looks pretty un-level to me. That is where turnbuckles in my design will shine. Micro adjust leveling.

Assembled but I will have to fix some stuff yet. 1 or 2 cables are a smidge too long. But it holds together right now. Finished late and I won't do the load test until I fix the long cables. You can even hold at one end and turn it 90 degrees. So soldering mishaps have left some scars on the wood. And yes the solder joints are particularly ugly. Good enough to give away to my sisters. After I build another, which I suspect will look better in the end.

Looking good- and impervious to shocks and quakes. Well done!

Before turning in for the night I had to fix the uneven tension. Realizing I could fix by just shortening the center cable, I loosened the turnbuckles and undid the guy wires. Then I untied the center on 1 end so I could retie it about 1 inch shorter. Then I reassembled the guy wires and now the tension can be adjusted even. I put my work tool bag on it for a load test (about 25lbs or more). It held it, but the guy wires did slacken up a small amount. I think in retrospect I could have just tightened the turnbuckles under the load it would hold that 25lbs long-term. Something to consider before I apply the blue Loctite.

Isn't it cool, when a plan gets together? I have small tweaks in mind for the "new" car, but they are peanuts, by your idea...
