It is funny, I looked at the last two cars and we have traded at about the same amount a newer car every 6 years. The former Euro Honda 8th generation (look it up) 4 cil. 1.8, hatchback, extremely generous boot, 140 hp, climate, electrics, CC, the works, had 261,500 km, which meant, we drove just 77,000 km in 6 years, which is not so much, but if there wouldn't have been Covid, I'm sure it was way over 80,000. It is still a strong car, with great engine and everything works, (the windshield wipers steering sometimes, had a mind of it's own) and just had new Pirelli All Weathers, but I came across a opportunity. For around the same amount (every time a bit more) a 6 year younger (now from 2012) with ± 132,250 km (which is 51,000 less then the last car we bought in 2015), same engine and a few extra bells and whistles, but now 9th generation, a bit less quirky look but with a better undercarriage, which results in the same good handling, but quite a lot more comfortable. Again a big(ger) boot, better front seats (better in my lower back), DRL and this time a back window wiper! Top speed is also 10 km/h faster but who ever does that anyway?
OK, time for pics...At the dealer, our old car in the back)

Sweet, hope it serves you well! I'm still on track to buying a new vehicle next year. All that welfare money I did not ask for last year will finally get spent.

Had both brands and they are pretty good and durable. I like the styling by Mazda a bit better, but like the Honda engines better (more powerful compared to cilinder content, thanks to iVTEC) Besides, in the future I might buy a Hybrid, if I live that long that they become affordable for me, used, that is.

Here in the US they're generally only available on the premium performance cars. It's almost impossible to get a well-equipped economy car with a stick.

It's almost impossible to get a well-equipped economy car with a stick. Yup, that is the main transmission, every beginning driver, starts to learn to drive with the stick and it is much more difficult to learn all these rules and car handling at th same time. Getting a drivers licence is thus much more expensive. My son had a US licence in the States quite quickly, but he still hasn't his EU licence, as he still has problems with stick and looking around for other traffic/bicycles and performance anxiety. Maybe he can find someone in Spain to teach him. They are also fast drivers there! Automatics is just a percentage of the cars seen as for the elderly, for people who can't seem to learn manual, and people who are often in traffic jams. Stick is seen as more sportive and I do agree, but I love driving automatics when I'm in a lazy mood. I was lucky Paula learned early already in the States, to drive stick shift. She uses our car often for work.
