Tuesday night my lights started flickering, and I heard what sounded like fireworks. Turns out the power line behind the neighbors' house was shorting out to a tree that shouldn't be there. It was pretty exciting. The fire department showed up, looked at it for a while, and then left. I reported it to the power company, and they showed up after an hour or so. The power went out completely, but only for about 15 minutes. Then it was normal again. The freakiest thing was the metallic sizzling noise that was coming from all the wires, including the one to my house.

Let me guess. The power company sent a guy to install a power meter on the tree so they can know how much to bill it for the electricity shorted to ground.
