Nice Compressor Marcel! ~1991 Poljot Штурманские Navigator's chronographMade at the time the Soviet Union collapsed, it was the current presentation model given to graduates of their navigator/bombardier school. The chrome plated brass case and acrylic crystal were standard fare. Has "Poljot Russia" in simple block letter, single stroke machine engraving on the back where the graduate's name would be engraved, so it could be exported to the US with the required country of origin. All the other inscriptions on the back are heavily etched in cyrillic. Photo shows the original leather strap made from the hide of a sickly syphilitic soviet cow that's still on it. Had to repair it a number of times as the original glue keeps failing in various places. There's a stark contrast between the case, crown, dial and hands materials used in this one, and much more recent models. Bought it from Hammacher Schlemmer in 1991 to celebrate the fall of the Evil Empire and dissolution of the Soviet Union. Movement inside is the hand wind Poljot 3133, directly derived from the Valjoux 7734 with a half-dozen more jewels added, the beat rate increased to 21.6kpbh, and power reserve kicked up a half-dozen hours. The Soviets bought the entire production line for the 7734 directly from Valjoux, shipped it to Moscow, and set it up at the Poljot works with the help of Valjoux technicians. This occurred in 1978 as Valjoux reduced its portfolio of movement calibers in the face of the Quartz Revolution that was killing the Swiss watch industry. The newer 7750 family of automatics survived to be incorporated into ETA's portfolio. That's a cool Sturmanskie chrono, John.

That Sandoz is a great Explorer homage. I wanted one back in the day, but I was all about big watches and I deemed it too small. Sure wouldn't mind having one now.

Weather patterns are a mess from the hurricane... by the time it’s done, 24- 48 hours of rain with little breathing room. See if Dan Henry can weather this I think Dan will be up to it, Marcel. Love that watch. I'm getting the same rain, or course. It's been thundering since around midnight, and I stayed up really late watcing storms and waiting for a good, scary one. They all stayed slightly to the north, so it was mostly heaving rumbling with an occasion boomer. I am of course honeymooning with the Bulova Lunar Pilot. What a cool watch! I have it set to the atomic time signal, and the battery's fresh, so I'm going to be keeping track of how much it varies. It should be the most precise watch in my collection. I'm spending my time starting and stopping and resetting the chronograph. The lever-style push have an awesome click when actuated. I know what you mean- a lot of rumbling this morning. Finally dying off. Recorded 4 inches of rain from midnight to 8am in areas here. I am so glad you’re liking that Bulova. It was very precise. Was the battery dead in it? I hadn’t noticed. That click from the chrono push is very satisfying. Wear it in good health.

One sharp Henry. Had a heck of a storm last night with heavy rain, thunder and lightning. It came in from the Northwest, but didn't last long. But during the day Hot and Humid with low tide at the park and saw this Blue Crab in the mud. And going a bit retro today. Retro indeed! Prodigy Online. And the Crab People are emerging again.

Traveling day today. No rain here yet, but I expect to run into it at some point. I'm joining Marcel with my Dan Henry. Safe travels, Jeff! Another Dan Henry 1970 diver! You guys are killing me! Is that a 44mm version? It must be out of stock. I don't see it on their website. Yep, the 44mm that they sold out of not long after I bought mine.

I just discovered that the chrono resets itself after 60 minutes, which I really like. If I forget about it it doesn't go on forever and run out the battery. And the battery was dead, but that's no problem. I've become a pro at changing batteries since I've been keeping my quartz chronos alive. I had a new battery installed, the chrono hands aligned, and the bracelet sized within about 20 minutes after it arrived. I saw a lot of flooding reported in the Detroit area. Looks like more stuff is popping up here now. It's really dark for 7:30, and I hear rumbling again.
